Basketball fans who watched Team USA almost miss out on the gold medal are thanking their lucky stars Stephen Curry was in the starting line-up to mount a comeback.
Nikola Jokic and Serbia took control of the lead for much of their semi-final duel, and it seemed for a while that the Americans would be returning home to disappointment and criticism. However, Curry’s 36-point outburst helped the Americans mount an epic fourth-quarter comeback and force their way into the final.
If they manage to win against France in the final, many fans will look at the Serbia game as a defining moment for the entire squad’s gold-medal run.
Kevin Durant understands how important Curry’s performance for the squad was and didn’t waste any time in letting everyone know how much he appreciates having his former Golden State Warriors teammate in the same roster as he was.
Kevin Durant admires Stephen Curry’s ‘godlike’ performance for Team USA’s win vs. Serbia
Durant spoke about Curry’s performance after the team’s 95-91 triumph over a strong Serbia squad. The 35-year-old didn’t hold back with his superlatives when it came to how his former teammate with the Golden State Warriors performed.
“That was a godlike performance. God was with him tonight. It was one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen him play,” Durant said of Curry.
It’s not hard to see why the Slim Reaper invoked God’s name when describing Curry’s play if you look at the stat sheet. He shot an incredible 63.2% on floor, with nine of those makes coming from beyond the arc. Everyone in the arena could tell that Curry was in his element, and there was nothing they could do to stop him.
They now face another difficult opponent in France, and it will take more than Curry’s heroics to help the United States win another gold medal in men’s basketball. However, Steve Kerr, LeBron James, and the rest of Team USA know they can count on Chef Curry to be deadly from beyond the arc in the final.
