Former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter still wants to play basketball, but he’ll have to find somewhere else to continue his professional career outside of the NBA after getting banned by the league after it was discovered that he placed wagers on his team’s games.
Porter also reportedly tried to ask a judge for permission to get cleared to play basketball in Greece but that request was denied, according to Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic.
A federal judge has denied Jontay Porter’s request to allow the former Toronto Raptors center to play professional basketball in Greece, according to a court posting Tuesday.
A lawyer for Porter, who was banned by the NBA for gambling on his team’s games and pled to guilty to one federal charge connected to that, asked Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall in a letter Tuesday to allow Porter to play professionally this upcoming season in Greece for Promitheas B.C. in the country’s top league.
Ex-Toronto Raptors power forward Jontay Porter’s basketball career in shambles

The attorneys of the 24-year-old Porter, who is the younger brother of Denver Nuggets star forward Michael Porter Jr., asked Hall to have their client’s US passport returned and be granted permission to play basketball in Greece and travel in Europe.
While those requests were not countered by the United States attorney’s office and the United States pretrial services officer, the request to modify conditions on his pre-sentence release was rejected.

Jontay played a total of 37 games in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies and the Raptors. He averaged 3.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in his brief career in the NBA.
