Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young aims to surpass his average career-best assists per game in the next season. He declared his daring objective after former Hawks co-star Dejonte Murray left the team.
Young, who once again broke his career average records in the past season, retweeted a post in X that shared the three-time NBA All-Star’s APGs per season.
“At least the jersey # ! You would think,” captions Young.

The post, coming from StatMamba, displayed Trae’s #11 jersey. Young meant in his tweet that he’s aiming to break his career average record of 10.8 last season to 11 or even more in the next season. Atlanta’s star point guard had even higher hopes after the departure of Dejonte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans, while the Atlanta Hawks acquired four players and two future first-round picks in exchange.

The 25-year-old NBA All-Star is second in assists throughout the 2023–24 season. He was only 0.1 away from Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers. Despite playing only 54 games, Young averaged 25.7 points per game. Despite the Hawks’ star’s efforts, the team had never qualified for the playoffs, finishing only in 10th place.
Trae Young is known for his impressive feats in carrying his team. Since his debut in 2018, the 5th overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft has continuously surpassed his career best in average assists, from 8.1 that year to 10.8 today—Trae’s just 0.2 assists away from reaching his career-best in assists with the number of his jersey.
The Atlanta Hawks aim to improve their ball play for the next season. They had managed to be the first team in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft Pick, obtaining Zaccharie Risascher. The 6-foot-1 Trae Young is known for his impressive plays, and it is possible to get that 11.0 assists per game the following season if the fortunes are with him.

Trae Young and Dejounte Murray: The Atlanta Hawks’ promising duo of the recent seasons
The 2022 NBA All-Star entered the Hawks the same year. Along with Young, the team expected the two to carry the team through the conference. However, they only managed to advance once and immediately lost to the Celtics in the first round, 2-4.
Despite being traded to the Pelicans, the 27-year-old former Washington student had no ill feelings towards Trae. Dejounte said it’s all pure business and is willing to play with the Pelicans’ Williamson and Ingram.
