Tyler Herro and the Miami Heat failed to stop the Cleveland Cavaliers’ dominance in Game 4, suffering a sweep in what became the biggest playoff margin in NBA playoffs history. Following the first-round exit, Herro responded to a report referencing former controversial teammate Jimmy Butler, who he claimed could’ve helped them in the series.
The Athletic’s Jared Weiss made the report before the Heat faced off the Cavaliers in Game 3. Herro responded after Darius Garland brought up his poor performance in their previous game: 13 points on 13 shots.
The former Kentucky Wildcat believed that things would’ve been different for the Heat if Butler was still with them, who left during the trading period following issues with his contract and general manager Pat Riley.
“Obviously, I know I need Jimmy to win. If we had Jimmy right now, I feel like it’d be a completely different situation,” Herro told Weiss.
Tyler Herro posted a late story on his second Instagram account this Wednesday to clarify his previous comment. He expressed frustration with Weiss, believing his quote was taken out of context.
“Dude asked me a question in the timeframe of Jan–Feb when the ‘Jimmy saga’ was happening,” Herro wrote. “I said I had come into the season thinking I was playing off of Jimmy. Then he got traded, and I had to switch my mindset from needing Jimmy to being the lead guy. I also spoke about the things I learned from JB [Jimmy Butler].”
“Never said I need anyone to win games. Y’all trippin’. And buddy from The Athletic who wrote the article is a goofy. I usually don’t clear stuff up either, but I don’t like dude from The Athletic.”

Tyler Herro averaged 17.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in the playoffs. After Butler left the Heat, Herro became one of the team’s leaders this season.
Tyler Herro reveals piece behind impressive season
Tyler Herro put up his best stats with the Miami Heat this season, and despite the early playoff exit, he still has a chance for a contract extension. In an article by “All U Can Heat,” Herro made it clear that he hopes to stay with the Heat, and hopefully sign an extension soon.
“Not the biggest deal, but I would love to be here,” Herro said. “The front office, the organization, the city, everyone knows how much I love Miami.”
“This is really home for me,” he continued. “I love being here. Basketball is why I’m here at the end of the day.”
