UConn basketball is already feeling the heat so early in the 2024-25 college basketball season. Just a day after getting shocked by Penny Hardaway’s Memphis Tigers, the Huskies fell prey to another unranked team on Tuesday, with the defending national champions suffering a tough 73-72 loss at the hands of the Colorado Buffaloes
After starting the season with four blowout wins in a row, the Huskies now find themselves unable to answer the challenge from teams with better quality than the ones UConn faced early in the campaign.
Dan Hurley speaks up after another stunning UConn basketball loss
Hurley tried to explain the loss to Buffalo, saying that a lot of calls did go UConn’s way.
“Sometimes you’re not getting a great whistle and I don’t think out here we’ve gotten a great whistle, it just hasn’t bounced our way out here that way. It killed us to have so many guys in foul trouble during the game,” Hurley said after the Colorado game, via Matt Norlander of CBS Sports.
In addition, Hurley implied that the stunning loss to the Buffaloes is some sort of a reality check for UConn basketball and that he wants his team to show a “strong mentality” amid its recent struggles.
“I just think we’re all shocked. We’re all stunned. With the run that we’ve been on and how well we’ve played, the games are playing out way differently for us and we’ve got to be incredibly strong mentally right now.”
It is not the end of the world for UConn. The Huskies can definitely still turn things around,m beginning with a matchup against the Dayton Flyers this Wednesday at Lahaina Civic Center in Hawaii.
