The Utah Jazz may not have had the best of times last season, but they’re dedicated to building a team around Lauri Markkanen despite persistent rumors of him heading to the Golden State Warriors.
The front office is looking for a player who can help Markkanen in the scoring department as relying on Jordan Clarkson and Colin Sexton to take on the scoring load for the team proved to be insufficient for their postseason hopes.
Brandon Ingram has emerged as a favorite to end up with the Jazz via trade, but even the move is uncertain to go through if you look at the current talks surrounding the forward. The New Orleans Pelicans forward is rumored to be considering signing a new contract with the squad, which could kill any chances of the Jazz getting him.
However, things can quickly change if the Jazz put together a convincing trade package that will allow the Pels to send him over.
Utah Jazz to send Colin Sexton, Walker Kessler to New Orleans to bag Brandon Ingram
According to Fadeaway World’s Eddie Bitar, the Jazz could look into creating a trade package centering on Colin Sexton and Walker Kessler to convince the Pelicans to move on from the 21 PPG forward.
He argued that aside from scoring, Ingram’s length and playmaking (he averaged 5.7 assists a game last season) is going to provide a new dimension to Utah’s offense.
He also wrote about how Sexton and Kessler could re-tool the Pelicans to help Zion Williamson perform better:
Sexton, known for his scoring prowess, averaged 18.7 points per game in the 2023-24 season despite limited minutes due to injury.
Walker Kessler, a promising young center, adds a defensive anchor to the Pelicans’ frontcourt. During his rookie season, Kessler averaged 8.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game, showcasing his shot-blocking and rebounding abilities.
All parties involved in this prospective trade would benefit from the move if they decide to greenlight this trade. Whether this transaction happens is up to the teams on the negotiating table.
