After locking down Lauri Markkanen to a five-year, $238 million extension earlier this week, the Utah Jazz completed another roster move by signing Svi Mykhailiuk to a four-year, $15 million contract, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Svi Mykhailiuk is coming off a title-winning season with the Boston Celtics. The 27-year-old swingman made 41 regular season appearances with Boston, averaging 4.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per game while shooting 41.6 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three-point land. He also played in eight playoff games.
Before joining the Boston Celtics, the No. 47 pick of the 2018 NBA Draft bounced around the league and played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, Oklahoma City Thunder, Toronto Raptors, New York Knicks, and Charlotte Hornets.
Svi Mykhailiuk is the second free agency acquisition for the Utah Jazz this offseason after Drew Eubanks, who came aboard after playing for the Phoenix Suns last season. As things stand, the Utah Jazz only has 10 players on standard NBA contracts.
How does Svi Mykhailiuk fit in with the Utah Jazz?
The Utah Jazz were one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the 2023-24 regular season (35.4 percent, good for 22nd), so adding Mykhailiuk, a career 36.3 percent three-point shooter, makes sense for them.
Similar to his role in Boston, Svi Mykhailiuk is expected to play for the Utah Jazz’s second unit alongside Jordan Clarkson, Isaiah Collier, Cody Williams, Walker Kessler, and Brice Sensabaugh, and he will likely get a bump up in minutes.
The Utah Jazz missed the NBA playoffs for the second year in a row after finishing with a 31-51 record last season.
