The Lauri Markkanen saga is finally behind the Utah Jazz after the Finnish big man got signed by the team to an extension. But just because Markkanen is safely in Salt Lake City (for at least one season), it doesn’t mean the Jazz front office can just kick it back and relax, especially if they truly have the desire to seriously contend for a playoff spot in the 2024-25 NBA season.
Matt John of The J-Notes enumerated three things the Jazz can do after taking care of business on the Markkanen front, and on top of the list is the name of New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram, who has been a fixture in trade rumors this offseason.
There are multiple reasons why the Jazz should look into acquiring Ingram. Re-signing Markkanen to a max extension signals that they don’t want to put up a complete loser on the court. Pairing him with Ingram could at the very least show that they have some direction.
Even if those two don’t pair well together, the Jazz could at least flip for more assets, but that’s thinking way too far ahead of time.
Ingram has not signed an extension and an offer doesn’t seem to be on the table. With that, he only has a season left in his current deal that will pay him $36.016 million in the 2024-25 campaign. Unless an extension agreement is reached, Ingram will continue to hear his name in trade rumors.
