Lebron James is pushing 40 at the end of the year but his usage rate is almost the same as his age even in year 22. The Los Angeles Lakers should do something about it according to Vince Carter.
King James recently missed the game against the Portland Trailblazers, the first time he did not suit up and many fans think it is a welcome development to at least give their superstar some rest.
When he returns on Friday, should he play the same usual number of minutes?
Carter, who retired in 2020 and now working as an analyst, believes it is wrong that the four-time MVP is stretching himself at this point of the season. He made the comments as a guest in the ‘Run it Back’ podcast.
There was too many minutes. He’s playing too many darn minutes. I actually was covering that game [Lakers’ overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks]. He was playing 35 something minutes.
I am all for him playing every game. That’s not the thing. But playing 35 minutes, I just felt like it was a lot. It’s natural I can tell you. It wears on you regardless of your mind. Your body is talking to you.
Lebron is currently 16th in the league when it comes to minutes played per game.
How should Lakers use Lebron James minutes wisely?
James has the unofficial title as the only one who beats father time.
However, the Toronto Raptors legend believe the Lakers star playing such amount of minutes is not just a problem to the player himself but to the whole Lakers campaign this season.
I know he doesn’t like to miss practice, and he plays to win. I get it but maybe not 35 minutes. Maybe you preserve him in the first half and you play your bigger minutes in the second half when he gets better.
I feel like you have to find time to dial him back because at the end, do you need Lebron James more in the beginning of the season when AD is playing like this or do you need him from the middle to the back end of the year? I think they need him more at the back end.
