While Alex Sarr has made the headlines for the Washington Wizards for mostly the wrong reasons, Bub Carrington has gone under the radar as one of the top players in the recently concluded NBA 2K25 Summer League.
The former Pittsburgh guard made the NBA All-Summer League Second Team for his strong performances in Las Vegas this month, averaging 15.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 5.2 assists while shooting 32.9 percent from the field, 35.9 percent from three-point range and 86.4 percent from the free throw line in 32.6 minutes per game.
He was joined by Donovan Clingan, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Jarace Walker, and Jalen Wilson in the NBA All-Summer League Second Team.
Bub Carrington was not supposed to be with the Washington Wizards in the first place. The Portland Trail Blazers originally got him with the No. 14 pick, but they traded him, Malcolm Brogdon, and a future draft pick to the nation’s capital in exchange for Deni Avdija.
Throughout the tournament, Carrington was praised for his all-around play. Although his shooting percentage left to be desired, he more than made up for it with his activity on the glass and his playmaking, which was evident during their win over the Bucks in the final game.
“What I love about his game? 15 rebounds and five assists,” Wizards head coach Cody Toppert said about Bub Carrington via George Michalowski. “That just tells you the type of guy he is. He’s gritty, he can grab-and-go on the defensive glass. He’s the guy that just loves those big moments.”
Bub Carrington to bring his “max play mentality” to the Washington Wizards
The Washington Wizards are entering their rebuilding phase, and Bub Carrington figures to be a huge part of their long-term plans. The 19-year-old guard will likely fight for backcourt minutes alongside Jordan Poole, Malcolm Brogdon, Bilal Coulibaly, and Corey Kispert.
But more than anything, Carrington is excited to play for the Washington Wizards since this is his home team, as he is a Baltimore, Maryland native.
“It’s going to be live. Everyone in Baltimore, they are always going to ride for you no matter where you are at. Now you got Baltimore and Washington, DC behind you.” Carrington said via Shawn Stepner of WMAR2 Baltimore.
