Washington Wizards guard Marcus Smart got into a shouting match with a fan while on the bench during his team’s 124-90 loss against the Boston Celtics last Sunday. The heckling fan was ejected from TD Garden shortly after the exchange.

“(The fan) just crossed the line and we all know I don’t do line-crossing,” Smart said after the game via ESPN. “That was it. We move on. Unfortunate, you never want to see that, especially for a guy who’s coming back, and who’s given the city everything he has, but it is what it is. Take the spirit, we’ll take it. Onto the next one.”
Outside the incident, Smart received a warm reception from the TD Garden crowd. Before joining the Washington Wizards, the one-time Defensive Player of the Year winner spent the first nine years of his NBA career with the Boston Celtics.

Boston fans wanted Smart to come on, but he didn’t see the floor. The Washington Wizards fell to a 17-61 record after the road loss.

Washington Wizards head coach Brian Keefe said that Marcus Smart has been “terrific” since the trade because of what he provides in a young locker room.

“We’re thrilled to have him on our team,” Keefe said about Smart. “Obviously, you guys know here in this town what he meant to the city of Boston. He’s a tremendous leader, a tremendous player.”
The 31-year-old combo guard averages 9.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals on 44.0 percent shooting from the field while taking a backseat to his younger teammates in 15 games this season for Washington.
