The Washington Wizards have the sixth overall pick in this summer’s NBA Draft, and they’re reportedly keen to trade up to get their next franchise cornerstone.
According to renowned NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Washington Wizards are considering taking VJ Edgecombe from Baylor, given his immense 3-and-D potential and high motor.
“One team that league executives increasingly mention as interested in trading up for Edgecombe: Washington,” Fischer wrote on The Stein Line. “And only adding to the intrigue surrounding the Wizards: They hold No. 6 and No. 18 selections in the first round, which has rival teams eyeing them as a potential trade-up partner for both Philadelphia and Charlotte.”
Most mock drafts have Edgecombe as a Top 5 pick, which means that the Washington Wizards could miss out if they don’t do anything. Washington could also consider other prospects, such as Tre Johnson and Ace Bailey, if they trade up.
Washington Wizards Rumors: Jordan Poole mentioned as potential trade candidate
According to NBA Big Board’s Rafael Barlowe, the Washington Wizards are reportedly thinking about shopping Jordan Poole ahead of the NBA Draft in an attempt to freshen up their backcourt.
“Also worth noting — around the league, there’s growing belief that Jordan Poole could be moved, either on draft night or later this summer,” Barlowe said. “That potential shake-up adds another layer to Washington’s draft strategy and could open up a path for a new backcourt face.”
Poole has two years left on his contract. The one-time NBA champion averaged 20.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.3 steals on 43.2 percent shooting from the field across 68 regular season starts in 2024-25.
