Things are not still better for Doc Rivers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Whether Rivers’ seat is getting warmer or not, it’s undeniable that the performance of his team early in the 2024-25 NBA campaign is a huge letdown.
It looked as though the Bucks were going to have a terrific start after beating the Philadelphia 76ers in their season-opener, but since then, Milwaukee has lost four straight games. That stretch includes their 122-99 beatdown at the hands of Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night.
The Grizzlies were missing a lot of players due to injuries, but they outplayed Milwaukee in a lot of areas. Milwaukee’s performance in that contest surely is not reflecting well on Rivers. One of Rivers’ former players, Kendrick Perkins, is even questioning his ability to coach amid Milwaukee’s struggles.
“Doc looks like he wants to get back into TV,” posted Perkins on X (formerly Twitter.
Will Doc Rivers’ seat get even warmer as the Milwaukee Bucks try to find a solution to their woes?
The Bucks appear to be wasting what has been a terrific season by Giannis Antetokounmpo. So far, Milwaukee is only 21st in the league with 21.1 points per game and 26th with 119.6 points allowed per contest. Defense appears to be a bigger issue for the Bucks, and it showed in the Grizzlies game, with Memphis shooting 52.4 percent from the field and racking up 10 points more than Milwaukee in the paint.
Milwaukee can’t allow the losing to continue for long. Otherwise, it could mean the eventual firing of Rivers, who had a gig with ESPN and ABC as an analyst before getting hired by the Bucks to replace Adrian Griffin.
