Like Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese is having a tremendous first year in the WNBA. Turns out, it got even better when she won the 2024 BET Awards Sportswoman of the Year.
Reese had a standout college career, first at the University of Maryland and then at Louisiana State University (LSU). As a freshman at Maryland in 2020-21, her season was interrupted by a fractured right foot. However, she came back strong in her sophomore year, earning third-team All-American honors from the Associated Press.

The 6’3″ forward then transferred to LSU for her junior season in 2022-23. There, she had a dominant year, being named a unanimous first-team All-American. She led LSU to its first-ever national championship, and was named the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. She set the NCAA single-season record for double-doubles and the SEC single-season record for rebounds.
For her senior season in 2023-24, Reese was named the SEC Player of the Year and a second-team All-American by the AP. She finished her college career with numerous accolades, including two first-team All-SEC selections and two SEC All-Defensive Team honors.
The former NCAA champion was selected seventh overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA draft. She made an immediate impact in the WNBA, helping the Sky to a strong season in her rookie year. At the international level, Reese won a silver medal with the U.S. national team at the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.
Chicago Sky Rookie and WNBA Star Angel Reese Reacts To Winning 2024 BET Awards’ Sportswoman of the Year

Apart from putting up impressive numbers on the court, Reese has also been winning off the court. Just recently, the Chicago rookie won the 2024 BET Awards Sportswoman of the Year, which led the rookie to react on her official X account.
“Thank you @BET for Sportswomen of the Year! 🙏🏽🥺,” Reese tweeted.
In 16 games this season for the Sky, Reese has averaged 13.5 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per contest. She is also shooting 40 percent from the field and 76 percent from the free throw line without attempting even one shot from beyond the arc.

With how things are going for Reese, it’s not hard to imagine a long and fruitful career for the Chicago star. Add a budding rivalry with Clark and the stage is set for her to become even more popular than she is now.
