Without a doubt, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese is one of the big reasons why the WNBA is thriving right now. And after breaking Candace Parker’s old record, the young forward has nothing but good words for one of the best female hoopers ever.
Reese made WNBA history on Sunday by recording her 13th consecutive double-double, surpassing the previous record set by Candace Parker. Reese’s impressive feat came during the Sky’s 84-71 loss to the Seattle Storm.

The game started well for the Sky, who jumped out to an early 12-3 lead in the first quarter. Reese nearly had a double-double by halftime, ultimately finishing the game with 17 points, 14 rebounds and 4 steals. Despite Reese’s efforts, the Storm clawed their way back into the game, led by Nneka Ogwumike’s 24 points and 13 rebounds, and Jewell Loyd’s 20 points.
The Sky led for most of the first half, but the Storm went on a 16-2 run in the third quarter to take the lead. Though the Sky made a late push, cutting the deficit to 3 points in the fourth quarter, the Storm responded with a game-sealing 12-0 run to secure the victory.
While the Sky ultimately fell short, Reese’s historic performance highlighted her consistency and impact as a rookie. The 22-year-old expressed her focus on doing whatever it takes to help her team, regardless of her rookie status.
Chicago Sky Rookie Angel Reese Praises Candace Parker After Breaking Her WNBA Record

After the game, Reese spoke to the media and shared her thoughts about making history in the league. At the same time, the Chicago rookie dropped some praise on former WNBA star Candace Parker’s name, as seen in a post shared by ESPNW on Instagram.

Parker was the first overall pick in the 2008 Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks. She spent 13 seasons with the Sparks, winning two championships, and later won titles with the Chicago Sky and Las Vegas Aces. She was also named MVP twice and is considered one of the greatest players of all time.

Much like Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark, Reese is already making her mark in the league earlier than expected. If she keeps this up, the Chicago star will have a long and fruitful career ahead of her.
