For the past few weeks, Caitlin Clark has been targeted by several WNBA stars on and off the court ever since she made her debut for the Indiana Fever. Former Rookie of the Year and current analyst Chiney Ogwumike shared her thoughts on the matter by saying the league has always been this competitive.
Before Clark entered the league, she spent four years playing women’s college basketball for the Iowa Hawkeyes. During that period, the point guard managed to break Pete Maravich’s old record to become the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer.

However, Clark’s final year in college didn’t end on a high note after Iowa fell to the South Carolina Gamecocks in the final round. Nevertheless, she was still selected first by the Indiana Fever during the most recent draft. As a result, an insane amount of hype was generated with Caitlin in the middle, a development that drove more fans to be interested in the WNBA.
The thing is, other players in the league haven’t taken too kindly to Clark’s first year as a pro. Several stars have made it a point to target the Indiana Fever rookie on and off court, prompting personalities like NBA legend Charles Barkley and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James to defend the former Iowa star.
Former WNBA Star Chiney Ogwumike Speaks Out on Caitlin Clark Controversy

Apart from Barkley and James, former WNBA star Chiney Ogwumike also spoke out on the various controversies revolving around Fever star Caitlin Clark. The ex-Los Angeles Sparks forward shared her thoughts in a video SportsCenter shared on X.

Over the course of 11 games this season, Clark has averaged 15.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest. However, the Fever has a record of two wins and nine losses, making them one of the worst teams in the league.

It remains to be seen whether Indiana can change the narrative by racking up more victories down the line. In any case, the competitive nature of the league remains on top and Clark will have to deal with the challenges related to it moving forward.
