Even in her first year in the league, there’s no denying the impact Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has on the game itself. Now, the rookie point guard has joined two other contenders for the WNBA MVP award early in her career.
Clark’s transition from college stardom to becoming a pro promised to be a captivating storyline in the 2024 season. As a highly anticipated rookie, she has been listed as the third-shortest favorite to win the league’s MVP award.

While her potential is undeniable, the path to the MVP trophy is fraught with challenges. History shows that rookies rarely capture this prestigious honor, with only Candace Parker achieving the feat in 2008. Her impact may be primarily on the offensive end, unlike Parker, who excelled in all facets of the game.
Moreover, the Indiana Fever struggled mightily last season, managing just 13 wins. Even with the rookie’s arrival, it seems improbable that the Fever will rise to the upper echelon of the league, where the Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty reside.
Indiana’s limited success could hinder the rookie’s MVP case, as the award typically goes to players from the best-performing teams. While her talent is undeniable, the odds of her capturing the MVP award in her rookie season appear daunting.
Caitlin Clark Joins A’ja Wilson and Sabrina Ionescu as FanDuel’s Top 3 WNBA MVP Contenders

Although the challenges may be harder for for the Indiana guard, the fact that she has been seen as a contender for the league’s MVP award is a feat that should be recognized. In a tweet by FanDuel on X, the Fever star is seen trailing behind Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson and New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu for the said accolade.

Wilson has been playing like crazy to make herself worthy of a third MVP award. Ionescu, on the other hand, is playing the best basketball of her life by leading New York to a high seed with a record of 21-4.

It remains to be seen whether the rookie can make a definitive push towards the MVP award or falter behind Wilson and Ionescu. Nevertheless, achieving this much early in her career is already a feat worth celebrating.
