The past year has been a good one for the WNBA, especially after viewership and interest in the league grew exponentially. In a way this led former NBA star Carmelo Anthony‘s son, Kiyan, to name his top three female hoopers and Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark isn’t one of them.

Kiyan Anthony’s recent omission of Clark from his list of favorite WNBA players has sparked significant discussion among fans and analysts alike. Clark, who made headlines as the all-time NCAA scoring leader and has quickly become a prominent figure in the league, is seen as a player capable of elevating the league’s profile. Her rookie season with the Fever showcased her talent and ability to draw new audiences to women’s basketball.

Given her impact and the excitement she brings to the game, many were surprised to see her excluded from Anthony’s favorites. This decision seems particularly puzzling considering the high regard in which Clark is held, both for her skills and her potential to become one of the greatest players in the league’s history.

Anthony’s choice raises questions about how emerging players perceive their peers in the WNBA. The context in which he made his comments, particularly during a podcast, led some to speculate that the omission might not reflect his true feelings but rather a response influenced by the discussion’s dynamics.

While his exclusion of Clark raised some eyebrows, Anthony proceeded to name his top three WNBA stars. This can be seen in a video of Chicago Sky star Angel Reese’s podcast shared by ClutchPoints on X.

Anthony recently named his favorite female players, highlighting Sabrina Ionescu, Angel Reese, and Diana Taurasi. Ionescu, known for her exceptional playmaking and shooting, has quickly made a mark in the league. Reese, celebrated for her rebounding skills, brings a fierce competitiveness to the court.

Meanwhile, Taurasi, a veteran and multiple-time champion, is often regarded as one of the greatest players in women’s basketball history. Each of these athletes showcases unique strengths, contributing to the growing excitement and talent within the WNBA. Fans continue to support and debate their impact on the game.
