WNBA News: Way before the Caitlin Clarks and the Angel Reeses came storming into the league, there were more than a few icons that blazed the trail before them. None of them, arguably, was bigger than future Hall of Famer Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury, who is currently playing in her 20th year as a pro.
Taurasi is currently in Paris as a crucial part of the Team USA contingent that will be hoping to bring home a gold medal yet again. As it turns out, this is going to be the 42-year-old’s Olympic swansong.
WNBA News: Diana Taurasi Calls Time on International Career

With Team USA’s Olympic opener just days away, Taurasi made an announcement about her plans to hang it up after this tournament.
“It’s definitely it for Team USA basketball,” she said. “I’m 42, six Olympics. It’s just been such an honor to put on that jersey every single time.”
In case you were wondering, Taurasi won gold in all five of her previous Olympic stints, and she is now looking to make it a record six golds in Paris in what will be her final run.

Despite the fact that the Americans are widely considered to be the favorites to win it all this year, Taurasi knows that it won’t be a walk in the park. She’s now come out with a powerful statement to rally the troops, so to speak.
“It’s hard to put together 12 players that have never played together, practice twice and expect to win a gold medal,” Taurasi said. “But we will always figure out a way to sacrifice, to be selfless, to make sure that the end result is to win a gold. … It’s about our country and it’s about doing the job.”
For Taurasi, there would be no better way to end what has been an iconic international career by winning a gold medal for one final time.
