Los Angeles Sparks All-Star forward Dearica Hamby wants the WNBA and the Las Vegas Aces to pay for the treatment she got from her former team while she was pregnant and for the lack of action done by the league in its investigation of the case.
The federal lawsuit filed by Hamby against the Aces and the WNBA revealed some headshaking details of her allegations, including getting traded by Las Vegas just because she was pregnant. The Aces sent Hamby to the Sparks in 2023 along with a first-round pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft in exchange for a second-rounder in the same draft class.

Here are some of their comments (via replies on a Bleacher Report post on X).
“She’s absolutely right for doing this. The team is weird for that”
“Get that money and vindication, Dearica!”
“That’s what’s up!! I’m rooting for her!! 💪🏼”
“Good. From what I have heard she was treated horribly.”
“I hope she wins, she doesn’t deserve to go through that 🖤”
“She’s doing the right thing, respect women’s rights 💪”
“The LV Aces need humbling and this lawsuit is gonna put that in motion, they treated Hamby badly.”
“This is deeply disappointing and unacceptable. No athlete should face discrimination, especially for something as natural and important as pregnancy. The WNBA and Aces need to be held accountable and ensure that this never happens again”
Hamby, who won bronze in the women’s 3×3 basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is a three-time All-Star. So far in the 2024 season, Hamby is averaging 19.2 points an 10.0 rebounds per game for the Sparks.
