For the past few months, basketball fans and analysts have been debating on whether Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark should win the WNBA Rookie of the Year award or Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese. For Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, though, the latter should end the season as the top rookie in the league.
The Rookie of the Year race is shaping up to be a tight competition between two rising stars – Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. According to ESPN’s analysis, the award is likely to come down to these two players.
Caitlin Clark, the point guard, and Angel Reese, the power forward, have both made significant impacts in their inaugural campaigns. Clark has recorded the first triple-double by a rookie, while Reese has set a league record with 15 consecutive double-doubles.
The analysts note that it is challenging to directly compare the two, as they play very different positions. Clark’s responsibility of initiating the offense may carry more weight with some voters, though guards, especially point guards, have traditionally been undervalued for individual awards. On the other hand, Reese’s consistent production in the paint despite the physical play could be a strong argument for her case.
Ultimately, ESPN predicts that Caitlin Clark will narrowly edge out Angel Reese to win the Rookie of the Year award in a race that is expected to go down to the wire. Both players have had exceptional debut seasons and have firmly established themselves as the future of the league.
The Reason Why Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown Picks Angel Reese Over Caitlin Clark to Win WNBA’s Rookie of the Year Award
Unlike ESPN’s prediction, Brown is going the opposite direction by choosing Reese to win the said award. In a video shared by Boardroom on X, the Celtics star explained why the Chicago rookie should end up winning.

Over the course of 24 games this season, Reese has averaged 13.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per contest. Meanwhile, this year’s number one pick has posted 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, and 1.5 steals for the Fever in Clark’s first year in the league.
It remains to be seen which of the two stars will be selected in the coming months. In any case, this year’s ROTY race in the WNBA is promising to be a good one whoever ends up as the winner.
