Kansas Jayhawks guard Zeke Mayo seemingly deactivated his X account and took a social media break, after receiving backlash and criticism over the recent losses in games and his not-so-stellar performance. More than just criticisms about the game, some people took things further with threats and racist remarks, which people defended Mayo from.
In a now-deleted post on X, Zeke Mayo apologized for his performance during the most recent game of Kansas against Texas Tech, where they lost with a final score of 78-73. A user managed to screenshot Zeke’s post, before seemingly deactivating his account, or setting it to private.
“I 100% deserve all the criticism in the world,” Mayo wrote in the post on X while attaching the screenshots. “My performance was beyond pitiful today, and has been for a while now. I work my (expletive) off everyday to be great, but I can’t be perfect all the time. I’m sorry to our fans and my teammates, I will continue to get better.”
Truly pathetic display from Kansas fans, and I guess this tweet didn’t make it better because Zeke Mayo deleted his account…
…but when I say our fanbase is special, compare this to the reception we gave Zuby when he missed 2 FTs in the Bahamas that would’ve sealed a huge OOC… pic.twitter.com/8UR1xiBWdZ

Zeke Mayo faced criticism from some fans after a recent game where the Kansas Jayhawks lost to Texas Tech 78-73. Mayo, who is the team’s second-leading scorer, had a tough game, scoring only five points on 1-of-7 shooting. This performance was part of a recent stretch where Mayo has struggled, recording single-digit scoring totals in three of his last four games.

Following the game, Mayo took to social media to apologize for his performance, acknowledging that he deserved criticism for his play. However, he also shared screenshots of hateful messages he received from fans, including threats of violence and racist comments.
Social Media Defends Zeke Mayo From Attacks, Threats
As Zeke Mayo disappeared on social media following his post, fans and people from the Kansas Jayhawks gathered in support of the guard, condemning the racist and threatening remarks thrown his way.
“These aren’t Jayhawks,” Kansas Director of Athletics Travis Goff said in a post. “They’re not ours. Driven by gambling and hate. They’ve never competed a day in their life.

“Zeke, you’re an awesome player and I’ve been a big fan of yours ever since you were at South Dakota State,” one sports reporter said. “Today was a rough game, it happens. I know you’ll bounce back and I hope you know that these toxic few don’t represent the Jayhawks that love having you here!”
