Zion Williamson is currently on a journey of self-improvement this offseason. After losing weight, many people began speculating about Williamson’s upcoming performance in October. Some even believe he might finally overcome his health issues and dominate the court.
One of these people is NBA 75’s Carmelo Anthony. In the recent “7PM in Brooklyn” podcast, the ten-time NBA All-Star expressed a boost in what to expect from Williamson. He believes the Duke Blue Devils’ alumnus’ next season is a season of comeback and victory.
“He lost six pounds and looked completely different. He looked like he in the best shape of his life but it’s not getting in shape but remaining in shape. … We always going to cheer for Zion. We love comeback stories. We love revenge stories. We love adversity stories. Like that’s what we love,” said Anthony.
Throughout his career, Williamson is continually bombarded with injuries. That’s why people no longer expect anything from a promising college player. However, when he showcased a glimpse of his healthy self in some games, everyone was now curious about what would happen next.
The two-time NBA All-Star is often the one who leads his team, the New Orleans Pelicans. Over 70 games in the recent season, he averaged 22.9 points, career-leading 5.0 assists, and 5.8 rebounds.
However, fortunes drastically shifted when Williamson was injured in the hamstring in the Play-In tournament against the Los Angeles Lakers. Nevertheless, he still showed dominance, scoring a double-double of 40 points and 11 rebounds, with five rebounds across 37 minutes.
Because of that specific injury, the 2019 ACC Athlete of the Year was ruled out for the rest of the season. The Pelicans ended up in eighth place at the end of the tournament. They faced the first-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round, where they were swept.
Zion Williamson: Journey after the heart-shattering injury.
Zion Williamson was determined to self-improve when he recovered from his hamstring injury. He ensures his body withstands injuries to come, decreasing chances of not playing crucial games for the Pelicans.
The power forward’s recent weight changes have garnered the support of many analysts and insiders. They all believe Williamson’s improvement will make him an even more dominant player who will threaten his opponents in the following games.
The member of the 2020 NBA All-Rookie First Team had also made improvements in diet control. These signs of change proved that Williamson is determined to lead the Pelicans without issues, providing his team a more satisfying end in the next season.
