Caitlin Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes career is over, and while she didn’t win a national title, she has nothing but fond memories of the team.
The WNBA-bound sharpshooter shared as much on Sunday night, hours after their painful loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks in the women’s NCAA Tournament National Championship.
Caitlin Clark’s Parting Message for Iowa Hawkeyes
On X (formerly Twitter), Clark showed her appreciation for the Hawkeyes coaching staff and her teammates for the incredible run they had.
While Clark certainly wishes they could have ended it on a better note, she emphasized that she’s proud of what they have accomplished. The Hawkeyes made it to the NCAA Tournament title game in back-to-back years but fell short both times.
Regardless, Clark couldn’t be any happier that she took her collegiate basketball journey with Iowa.
“Words cannot express my love for my teammates, coaches, fans and our university – Thanks for making my dreams come true. Wearing Iowa across my chest the last four years has been an honor. This place will always be home,” Clark wrote.
Clark’s parting message comes after she took to Instagram to bid farewell to the fans. On her Instagram stories, she posted a photo of her jersey and shoes with the caption, “I’ll miss ya” along with several yellow heart emojis.
It’s definitely a bittersweet ending for Iowa. Their superstar is now entering the next chapter of her career. But while that may be the case, fans can be happy with the fact that Clark happened to them. Even without a title, it’s been an amazing journey with her leading the Hawkeyes.
Caitlin Clark Has No Regrets With Iowa Hawkeyes
During her postgame presser following the Iowa Hawkeyes’ 87-75 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks, Caitlin Clark also highlighted that she has no regrets in her collegiate career, even though she ended it without a title to show.
“I’ll be able to sleep every night even though I never won a national championship,” Clark added, via Nancy Armour of USA Today.
True enough, it’s clear that Clark is happy with how everything went for Iowa. She’s not living in the past, but only learns from it and uses it to move forward. And that’s how it should be. Besides, Clark has every reason to be proud of her Iowa career–breaking records, becoming the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, and making the women’s game as big as it is today.
Clark brought women’s basketball to the forefront and elevated it. That legacy of her with the Hawkeyes will certainly never be forgotten. As she takes her talents to the WNBA next, everyone is now looking forward to what she does next.
