Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic became just the fourth player in NBA history to record three straight 30-point triple-doubles. It was all for nothing, though, as the Mavs still suffered a 120-116 loss against a Joel Embiid-less Philadelphia 76ers side, thereby wasting another gem of a performance by Doncic.
Despite Luka’s heroics, the Mavs have now lost two out of their last three games.
Dallas Mavericks Star Luka Doncic Reacts to Loss Vs. 76ers
Doncic did all he could to carry his side to a win on Sunday. He finished with 38 points on 14-of-27 shooting, to go along with 11 rebounds, 10 assists, a steal, and four triples in 40 minutes of action. It still wasn’t enough.
Kyrie Irving chipped in with 28 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Derrick Jones Jr. provided a 21-point spark off the bench for Dallas.
The Sixers, on the other hand, still did not have the services of Joel Embiid in this one as the reigning NBA MVP continues to nurse a lingering knee injury.
Tobias Harris was the hero of the day for Philly as he went off for 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting. Tyrese Maxey chipped in with 24 points, while Kelly Oubre Jr. logged 21 points off the bench.
Luka Doncic Reacts to Loss
At certain stretches of the game, it looked like the Mavs had run out of gas. They have had a tough schedule of late, coming off a four-game road trip that concluded with a 138-110 blowout loss against the mighty Boston Celtics on Friday.
For his part, however, Docic was in no mood to make excuses:
“The energy just has to be from the first second, first minute of the game,” he said, via Landon Thomas of Mavs Fan for Life. “I could do better for sure. That’s on me. When I do it, people follow me, so I’ve got to do better too.”
Doncic will get a chance to lead by example again on Tuesday when the Mavs host Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers at the American Airlines Center.
