For the first time since his rookie year, the Minnesota Timberwolves brought Anthony Edwards off the bench on Monday against the Portland Trail Blazers. Apparently, Edwards came in late for the game on Monday, which left the team with no other choice but to have Nickeil Alexander-Walker take his place in the starting five.
Edwards has now spoken out about this odd situation and to be fair, the 22-year-old isn’t making any excuses.
Minnesota Timberwolves Star Anthony Edwards Speaks Out on Being Late Vs. Blazers
Edwards came right before the game started, but he was unable to enter the game until after tip-off. He checked into the contest with 11:25 remaining in the opening quarter:
The Wolves took care of business against Portland, scoring a 119-114 victory at the Target Center. Edwards finished with 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting, four rebounds, and six assists in 35 minutes of action.
After the game, the two-time All-Star provided a curt explanation for his tardiness:
“I lost track of time,” said Edwards, via ESPN.
No nonsense from Edwards here, who incidentally, had to briefly leave the Blazers game due to a bruised elbow. He was able to return in the fourth quarter, though, and it now remains to be seen if this injury will impact his availability for Thursday’s game against the Indiana Pacers.
Anthony Edwards Recently Became a Dad
Edwards wasn’t late for Minnesota’s game against the Sacramento Kings on Friday. However, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard had to leave at halftime due to personal reasons. As it turns out, Edwards left the game to attend to the birth of his first child.
Edwards played a full 37 minutes in the Wolves‘ next game, which was an 89-88 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Although, being a new dad and all, it would not be surprising if the reason behind Edwards’ tardiness on Monday night had to do with his new bundle of joy.
