The New York Knicks are in full control of their second-round series against the Indiana Pacers. Thanks to the heroics of an incredible-albeit-battered Jalen Brunson, the team has a solid chance of making their first Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in a good while.
With the Knicks seemingly having total control over the Boston Celtics, some fans are already looking forward to the next round, where they will likely face the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Some will argue that the team and its fans are too eager to face the Celtics when they still have to win two tough games against the Pacers, but the confidence they have right now is sky-high. Any casual fan would think that nobody could stop the Knicks with the way they’re playing at the moment.
However, one NBA legend thinks that they’ll be in for a rude awakening if they do manage to face the C’s in the next round.
Charles Barkley thinks the New York Knicks will lose to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals
Charles Barkley went on an epic rant on Inside the NBA about the Knicks’ fanbase wanting the Boston Celtics in the next round of the playoffs. While he loves what New York is doing with their team, he believes that they’re far from ready to become legitimate rivals to the C’s.
Per The Spun’s Chris Rosvoglou:
“People think we care who wins,” Barkley said. “If the Knicks win that’ll be good. I don’t care who wins. but I’ll tell you what: I would love to see they [expletive] get stomped by the Celtics, that’d be great. I’m just saying, whoever wins this series gonna get stomped by the Celtics.”
Barkley didn’t stop there with his blunt assessment of New Yorkers.
“New Yorkers y’all deserve it,” Barkley said. “Y’all think y’all the greatest thing since sliced bread. Y’all ain’t that good in New York, come on man, you’re overrated.”
It’s clear that Barkley isn’t feeling the Knicks fanbase at all, but it comes with the terrtory. They’re one of the biggest markets in the NBA, and they always expect their basketball to be competitive.
Now that the New York Knicks are actually good, the fans are beside themselves. While they’re confident about their team’s chances against Boston, the head-to-head between the two teams this season doesn’t paint a pretty picture.
