Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has missed just one game for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Unfortunately, that tally will double on Wednesday night when OKC hosts a surging Houston Rockets side at the Paycom Center. This is after the two-time All-Star was ruled out of Wednesday’s contest due to what could be a concerning injury.
Oklahoma City Thunder Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander OUT Vs. Rockets
As it turns out, Gilgeous-Alexander has been playing through a quad issue for a few games now. It has now been deemed significant enough to force him to sit out on Wednesday against Houston. This report comes via ESPN’s NBA insider Tim MacMahon:
“OKC star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is sitting out tonight against the Rockets due to a right quad contusion. SGA has been playing through the injury since taking a knee to the quad a week ago,” MacMahon reported.
It is worth noting that the Thunder are playing on the second game of a back-to-back set, which likely played a significant role in their decision to give their superstar the night off. OKC took down Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday, 119-112, as SGA finished with 24 points and eight assists.
Shai revealed after the win that he has been nursing a quad injury since he suffered the knock last Wednesday against the Utah Jazz:
“Yeah, little banged up in my quad. Happened in the Utah game.”

The Thunder are off on Thursday but they return to action on Friday against the Phoenix Suns. It will be interesting to monitor Gilgeous-Alexander’s injury status for that one as we determine whether or not his injury absence against the Rockets is nothing more than a simple night off.
