The Orlando Magic have transformed into playoff contenders this 2023-24 season after finishing with the sixth-worst record in the NBA in the past campaign. While a huge reason for that resurgence is the All-Star play of Paolo Banchero, the team didn’t forget the person who made it possible: Jamahl Mosley.
With that being said, the Magic have seen enough from Mosley to trust him to steer the Orlando ship for the years to come.
Orlando Magic Make Jamahl Mosley Decision
On Tuesday morning, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN broke the news that the Magic have decided to give Mosley a contract extension.
While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, Mosley’s extension is said to be for four years.
“ESPN Sources: Amid a considerable franchise turnaround, Orlando Magic coach Jamahl Mosley has agreed on a four-year contract extension that’ll take him through the 2027-2028 season. Magic are a half game out of fourth in East and top 5 in defense,” Wojnarowski wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
It’s certainly a well-deserved contract, especially since the Magic now have a 37-28 record (at the time of writing) and well in position to make the playoffs. They are currently the fifth seed in the East and have a chance to climb further, with the fourth-seeded New York Knicks just half a game ahead.
Last campaign, the Magic finished the year with a 34-48 record, so they already have surpassed their record. And for the first time since 2018-19, they have a chance to finish with a winning record.
Orlando Magic Fans React to Jamahl Mosley Extension
Sure enough, Orlando Magic fans are happy with the team’s decision to keep Jamahl Mosley for the foreseeable future. The job he has done with the franchise is incredible, and it’s clear the players are in good hands under his tutelage.
“Deserved. Rare to see a team try and buy-in defensively, particularly a young team. He does a good job fabricating space offensively with extremely limited shooting. Some of the lineups are odd at times, but I appreciate a willingness to experiment. Players clearly adore him. W,” a commenter on Woj’s report wrote.
Another fan said, “Huge W. He connects with the team and the players love him. He has done wonders turning the team around.”
“WELL DESERVED!!! Glad they did right by him,” a third supporter added. Another one shared, “Beyond well deserved. He’s done a great job w a young core.”
The Magic definitely did the right thing with Mosley. Now, the coach wouldn’t need to worry about his future and just focus on developing his players the way he planned to.
