Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid missed his 21st consecutive game on Saturday as the Sixers took down the Charlotte Hornets, 109-98. Embiid has been working his way back from a significant injury in his left knee, which incidentally, was re-evaluated by team doctors over the weekend.
According to head coach Nick Nurse, the team is “happy with the progress” Embiid has had since being forced to go under the knife to repair the meniscus in his left knee in early February.
Nick Nurse’s Update on Philadelphia 76ers Star Joel Embiid
Nurse spoke to reporters ahead of Saturday’s victory over the Hornets and the one-time NBA champion coach revealed that while the team is pleased with what they’ve seen from Embiid on his road to recovery, they are still unable to provide a firm timetable for his return:
“I think there’s always stages of how these things progress,” Nurse said, via ESPN. “Everyone wants to know ‘Well how long is it going to be?” And they give a wide range because of that, because everyone heals differently. We’re just trying to take it as it comes, get him healthy and get him back when he’s ready to go.”
Be that as it may, Nurse has remained optimistic about a potential return right before the playoff starts:
“I’m still hoping so and pretty confident, yes,” the coach said of Embiid coming back right at the tail end of the regular season.
The Sixers have 15 more games remaining this season, which means that if Embiid hopes to play in a few games before the postseason commences, he should be back in the mix sooner or later.
