The Boston Celtics proved that they’re a team made up of humans. Jaylen Brown and the Celtics entered Tuesday night’s road game against the Cleveland Cavaliers looking unstoppable. They had the looks of an invincible squad. The Cavs, playing without star guard Donovan Mitchell, appeared to be another victim for the Celtics.
Unfortunately for the Boston Celtics, the Cavs were not going to be denied of a win even though the Atlantic division powerhouse had a 22-point lead in the fourth quarter. Powered by Dean Wade, who shot the lights out in the final period, the Cavaliers managed to pull off a stunning 105-104 come-from-behind victory against the top team in the Eastern Conference.
Jaylen Brown Sounds Off On Boston Celtics’ Loss To The Cleveland Cavaliers
After the game, Brown spoke about the shocking Celtics loss, implying that the defeat doesn’t and shouldn’t define Boston.
“I think we are a much better team than we showed today,” Brown said (via ESPN’s Tom Bontemps). “Today was just a mentality loss.
“We had the game and then we got comfortable, so it was more of a mindset thing than X’s and O’s. We gotta just be the more disciplined, the more militant team. We weren’t that. Usually we are that, and we felt that today and I think that’s the reason why they were able to get back into the game,” Brown added.
Or the Celtics simply did not expect Wade to suddenly turn into a prime Larry Bird in the fourth quarter. Wade scored 20 points in that period, going a perfect 7/7 from the floor, including five 3-pointers. He outscored the Celtics in the fourth, as Boston only coughed up 17 points.
Brown finished with 21 points, three rebounds, and four assists in 27 minutes.
The Boston Celtics Have A Tough Challenge Up Next
The Celtics will rest up on Wednesday before continuing their road trip to face the reigning NBA champions Denver Nuggets on Thursday in Mile High City. The Celtics are still comfortably perched atop the Eas standings with a 48-31 record – 7.5 games ahead of everyone in the conference.
