The Cleveland Cavaliers have done it. After a brutal seven-game war against the Orlando Magic, the Cavs have now booked their place in the second round of the playoffs.
This was thanks in large part to another majestic performance from Donovan Mitchell, who went off for 39 points on Sunday in their Game 7 win over the Magic.
Cleveland Cavaliers News: Donovan Mitchell Keeps His Eyes on the Prize
Mitchell addressed his teammates in the locker room after their 106-94 victory on Sunday. The 27-year-old acknowledged the significant achievement Cleveland had just accomplished by taking down the Magic but at the same time, Mitchell made it abundantly clear that the job was far from done:
“This is great, but we’re too talented to be satisfied with just this,” he said. “I’m just being honest… We didn’t come here for this just for one series.”

The odds will be stacked significantly against the Cavs now that they’re headed to the East Semis to battle the Boston Celtics. More than a few folks out there believe that this is a foregone conclusion and that the Celtics will eventually land in the Eastern Conference Finals to battle whoever wins the series between the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers.
Mitchell knows that they are the underdogs, but there’s just no way he’s settling for a participation medal. Not after they’ve come this far.
The Celtics-Cavs series starts Tuesday.
