Nikola Jokic is the biggest reason why the Denver Nuggets are serious contenders to win back-to-back NBA championships. The league still hasn’t figured out the winning formula to stop the Joker as he continues doing whatever he wants on the floor.
His impressive outings for the Nuggets this season should be more than enough to warrant another MVP trophy to his ever-growing cabinet of individual honors. However, one movie star is actively leading a campaign against Jokic winning another MVP.
Kevin Hart doesn’t believe Nikola Jokic should win another 2024 MVP
Comedian and movie star Kevin Hart, who is a known NBA fan, thinks that it would be bad for the league’s image if they give the award to Jokic, who already has two MVPs to his name.
“They cannot give the Joker any more MVPs,” Hart said, via Awful Announcing. “It’s not good for the NBA. Joker cannot win another MVP.”
Hart’s argument, while well-meaning, also brings about the question of voter fatigue among the voting population of the league. Since the NBA is a star-driven league, there are plenty of players aside from Jokic who deserve to get the award.
This season alone, Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Jalen Brunson are among the names who are being tossed around in the MVP conversation.
However, there’s also the argument that the MVP award deserves to go to a player that means a lot to his team. A great example of this is Joel Embiid. The 2023 MVP winner was a beast in the regular season, but he faltered in the postseason. Meanwhile, Jokic won it all with the Nuggets.
Denver Nuggets’ Jokic shares honest thoughts about 2024 MVP race
Jokic himself is aware of how toxic the MVP conversation has been. While he acknowledges that he’s been playing good basketball, he doesn’t discount the idea that other players also deserve to get the plaudit.
He had this to say about the entire matter, per Fadeaway World’s Nico Martinez:
“I think the whole MVP conversation is getting out of control,” said Jokic. “I think I’m playing good basketball…I think a couple of guys deserve to have the award.”
Jokis is graceful enough to understand that Doncic and the other candidates deserve to get the award as much as he does. While he doesn’t necessarily agree with Hart, it shows that the NBA has a plethora of stars who have shown enough to justify the win.
After all, what’s more important to him is the team stepping up when it matters.
