Dusty May Outlines Michigan Wolverines Plan to Becoming College Basketball Powerhouse in 2024

Dusty May has high expectations to meet when it comes to bringing the Michigan Wolverines back to its previous relevance. Leading the Wolverines to play winning basketball in the Big Ten is already tough by itself, but the fans want May to bring the team back to its winning ways in the tournament.

The task laid out for him is easier said than done, but May has a clear plan on how he will lead the Wolverines back into becoming relevant players in the collegiate basketball scene.

When Dusty May was introduced as the Wolverines head coach, he wasn’t under any illusion that he is inheriting a strong roster from Juwan Howard. However, he’s not letting the team’s current state affect him from expecting the best effort out of his players.

UMHoops.com’s Connor Earegood reported May’s determination in instilling a strong mentality on his players:

“It’s too early, but there won’t be a point when we just throw in the towel and say we’re not going to be competitive this year because it’s year one,” May said. “We want to win, and we want to be able to sell that going forward, what we were able to do in year one.”

One of the ways May wants to maximize his team’s potential in his first full season as Michigan Wolverines’ head coach is by maximizing their efficiency from deep:

The Wolverines are a surprisingly decent team when it comes to shooting from long-range, ranking 77th in the nation in three-point efficiency.

Key Wolverines Dusty May will have to count on in 2024

It’s still unknown which kind of players May will use for the Michigan Wolverines, but he will need the current crop of Wolverines to step up when needed. It’s in the program’s best interests for him to identify key players from the current roster so he can have an easier time with recruitment.

One of the players he should be able to use is Dug McDaniel. While he only stands at 5’11”, the sophomore is a terrific baller with his 16.3 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 4.7 APG, and 1.1 SPG.

The other notable player in the Wolverines lineup is forward Tarris Reed. He’s the team’s primary presence down low with 9.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks this season.

There are other players he could use, but these two are going to be the players who will have an active role in May’s new-look Wolverines.
