Without a doubt, Nikola Jokic has been on a tear all season long and is among the frontrunners to win this year’s MVP award. But for Patrick Mahomes, though, there’s another NBA star more worthy than the Denver Nuggets’ big man for the recognition.
Although Mahomes’ has a different take on the MVP race, there’s no denying Jokic has been playing well since the regular season began. Over the course of 76 games that started last year, the All-Star big man is scoring 26.4 points per game on 57 percent shooting from the field, 35 percent from beyond the arc, and 82 percent from the free throw line. He’s also making 12.4 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 1.3 steals on a nightly basis.
While Jokic is doing great in the MVP race, there’s also a case to be made for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder. This season, the OKC All-Star guard has managed to transform the team from a regular bottom-dweller in the Western Conference to the powerhouse they are today. In 72 games, SGA is averaging 30.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.3 assists while leading the NBA in steals with 2.1 per contest.
The regular season is slated to end very soon and the league is expected to release the winner of this award in the coming days. If either player wins MVP, it won’t come as a surprise anymore to fans eagerly anticipating the result.
Patrick Mahomes Drops NBA MVP Vote and It’s Not Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic
If Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes is to be believed, the MVP this season won’t be Jokic or Gilgeous-Alexander. The NFL star shared his vote via a tweet he posted on his official X account:
— Patrick Mahomes II (@PatrickMahomes) April 10, 2024
This season, Doncic has infused the Dallas Mavericks with a renewed energy and focus to rise up the standings in the Western Conference. Along the way, the Mavs’ All-Star is averaging 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
If Doncic wins MVP, many would feel the choice to be a good one, especially Mahomes, It’s only a matter of days now before the winner is revealed and whoever it is will surely be vindicated after a season’s worth of hard work.
