Much like Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was also a dangerous threat from beyond the arc during the latter’s playing days in the NBA — albeit at a different level, of course. Kerr also played in the league well into his 30s.
Kerr called time on his playing career at the age of 37, which incidentally, is just two years older than Curry’s current age.
Golden State Warriors News: Steve Kerr Hilariously Refuses to Compare Himself to Stephen Curry
Coach Kerr, however, will be the first to reject any comparison between himself and the greatest shooter of all time — at least in terms of the similarities in their respective games. On Sunday ahead of Golden State’s matchup against the Utah Jazz, a reporter compared Kerr’s longevity to that of Curry’s. It prompted a hilariously blunt response from the four-time NBA champion coach:
“It wasn’t hard for me, I played like 12 minutes a game,” Kerr said, via Warriors on NBCS on Twitter. “Even at 37, 12 minutes is very doable. It was easy.”
Don’t let the humility fool you, though. Despite being more of a role player during his time in the league, Kerr has no less than five championships under his belt. That makes him a nine-time champ if you include his four rings as Golden State’s head honcho.
Stephen Curry is ‘Superhuman’
Kerr then went on to heap praise on Curry’s durability. According to the tenured shot-caller, Steph’s ability to stay healthy is an unheralded aspect of his greatness:
“What Steph does is superhuman,” he said. “I think it’s his most underrated quality is his endurance and his strength and his ability to fly around like he does. … He just keeps himself in immaculate condition.”
The Warriors gave Curry the night off on Sunday, though. The Dubs officially clinched a Play-In spot on Sunday thanks to the Houston Rockets losing out to the Dallas Mavericks, but Golden State is still fighting for positioning.
They still have four games remaining after Sunday, and the decision was to give Curry some rest against a weaker (at least on paper) Jazz team. Steph should be back in the lineup on Tuesday against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
