The Golden State Warriors are in a state of flux. After their soul-crushing loss to the Sacramento Kings in the play-in, the future of the team is anything but certain. Everyone on the roster is not safe from the media whirlwind as even the fate of two of the team’s core players is in serious doubt.
Many believe that Stephen Curry would be the only untouchable Warriors on the roster. After all, he’s the one player that Steve Kerr’s system has rotated around for almost a decade now. The idea of the team’s marquee man wearing an NBA jersey that isn’t Golden State’s is unfathomable for Dub Nation.
However, that’s almost what one bookie is implying as the odds for a possible trade destination for the future Hall of Fame point guard is revealed.
San Antonio Spurs are surprise favorites to land Stephen Curry if the Golden State Warriors trade him
Kameron Duncan of The Spun wrote about the aftermath of the team’s loss in the play-in. With the Warriors dynasty almost certainly over this time, the Warriors are considering all possible options with what they’ll be doing in the offseason.
It’s almost certain that the Dubs won’t be contenders next season unless they pull off incredible offseason transactions to retool the roster. Duncan writes that if Curry wants to win one more chip before he calls it a career, he might be headed to the San Antonio Spurs:
According to Bovada, the San Antonio Spurs have the second best odds to acquire Curry for the 2024-25 season at +650.
The Warriors are massive favorites to retain Curry at -5000, but seeing him on a different team is an interesting thought.
Curry teaming with an emerging superstar in Victor Wembanyama would be exciting for neutral fans, and it could potentially provide the four-time champion with another chance to win a title before he retires.
Stephen Curry is still one of the most potent point guards in the NBA despite playing at the ripe old age of 36 years old. Through 74 regular-season games, he’s averaged 26.4 points 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists on 36.2 minutes of game time.
He can become the veteran point guard a young phenom like VIctor Wembanyama would need to become an unstoppable force in the Western Conference. The potential duo would cause plenty of matchup problems for teams across the league.
However, it’s more likely that the Warriors will do everything they can to keep Chef Curry in Golden State and try to win with him carrying a young team of players. It’s up to him if he wants to go out like Kobe Bryant did for the Lakers in 2016 or chase that one more ring with Wemby or another NBA franchise.
