The Boston Celtics were tripped up by the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday, with the Cavs stealing a 118-94 win at TD Garden to tie the series up at a win apiece. The lopsided nature of the contest left many confounded. The Celtics shouldn’t have lost by that big of a scoring margin, considering their powerful roster, let alone the fact that they were playing at home.
Then again, the playoffs never fail to deliver surprises, and that’s what the Celtics got in Game 2.
Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla believes that a combination of factors led to his team’s downfall.
“When you lose a game like that, it could be a combination of tactics, a combination of effort, a combination of all those things at times,” said the Celtics mentor during the postgame presser.
Fans are not feeling what Mazzulla said, though. Here are some of the comments online to Mazzulla’s take.
“I never see this dude draw up a play after a time out when to stop the bleeding. I don’t trust this guy man.”
“How about you 8-35 from 3. You got versatile players but you a one sided coach – automatic loss when team shoots bad, zero adjustment on your part”
“If you have to go back And watch film, to figure out what went wrong then you definitely suck as a coach. Period.”
“It falls on you Joe! You didn’t make one adjustment from game 1 and the cavs did. Have to have a plan b when the live or die 3s aren’t going in.”
“Dear JM…here’s a tip that MIGHT help take whatever defense gives you: you’re on a fast break? finish strong at the rim – DONT PULL UP FOR 3. the D switches zone ? find the open man and SHOOT THE 3.”
“Inexcusable home beat down loss.”
Boston Celtics Will Look To Recover in Game 3
While the loss to the Cavs in Game 2 was tough to swallow, it was not the end of the world either for the Celtics. They can get back to their usual dominant form in Game 3 which will be played on Saturday in Cleveland.
