Caitlin Clark has been breaking records left and right while playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes this year. Turns out, she’s also replicating streaks accomplished in the NBA, specifically one set by Allen Iverson almost two decades ago.
Just recently, Clark became the all-time leading scorer in the NCAA’s Division I and surpassed the single-season record for most three-pointers in a season she previously had with Stephen Curry. Along with the Golden State Warriors’ star, the latter record was also held by former New York Liberty guard Darius McGhee.
Before Clark became the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer with 3,737 points, that record was previously held by Pete Maravich when he played three seasons for LSU. The Hawkeyes star accomplished that feat by averaging 31.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game this season.
Clark has also made her intention of entering the WNBA Draft known. It remains to be seen whether Iowa makes the Finals or gets eliminated in the Big 10 Tournament.
Iowa Hawkeyes’ Caitlin Clark Accomplishes Similar Streak Allen Iverson Did Almost 20 Years Ago
Along with all the records Clark has broken, there’s one streak she has accomplished that hasn’t been done since Allen Iverson did it almost 20 years ago. According to a post by OptaSTATS on X:
“Caitlin Clark of @IowaWBB has had at least 20 points and 5 assists in 28 consecutive games. That’s the longest streak by any NBA, WNBA or Division I men’s or women’s player in a single season since Allen Iverson had a 29-game streak in 2004-05.
Iverson is regarded as one of the NBA’s best players and among the league’s greatest scorers. Over the course of 14 seasons, The Answer averaged 26.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. The Philadelphia 76ers legend is also a four-time scoring champion, 11-time All-Star, and Rookie of the Year in 1996, among others.
With Clark’s star rising so fast, it’s only a matter of time before she takes the WNBA by storm. For now, her dominance of college basketball is truly one for the ages.
