After a slow start to their season, the Los Angeles Clippers looked like real contenders with a core of Kawhi Leonard, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and Paul George. The latter, though, has a given a different take on their progress and why fans should be worried for the team.
Although the Clippers are nowhere near the top teams in the West, they still have more than enough firepower to take care of the Charlotte Hornets. This is clearly shown in a 130-118 win over Buzz City with George’s 41 points leading the way. Leonard added 23 points while Ivica Zubac delivered a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds as the team’s starting center.
Charlotte, meanwhile, saw Miles Bridges went off for 33 points and seven rebounds. Hornets rookie Brandon Miller, a player who has a similar skillset as George, made 22 points, six rebounds, and four assists in almost 40 minutes on the court against the Clippers.
The win helped Los Angeles stay at the fourth spot as their record improved to 47-27. It has also created a little distance between the Clippers and a surging Dallas Mavericks team led by All-Star guard Luka Doncic. The Hornets, on the other hand, are out of the playoff picture with only 18 wins and 56 losses this season.
Paul George’s Honest Take On Los Angeles Clippers’ Progress This Season
After the game, George spoke to reporters and gave his honest review of Los Angeles’ season and how the playoffs are looking for them. In an article written by Steve Reed for Associated Press:
“No, we are still a work in progress,” George said. “I thought we were the better team so we should have won. But I thought it should have been more decisive than what it was. So we have room to improve. But we will get there,” Reed wrote.
On the surface, one might not think anything of George’s remark. The thing is, there’s only 10 games left in the regular season and it’s not entirely encouraging to have a team that hasn’t gelled yet play in the postseason. Add the fact that George will have his own extension in the offseason, and there’s bound to be some potential drama down the line.
This will possibly boot the Clippers out of the playoffs earlier than expected, which will be a disappointing turn of events given how many All-Stars they have in the lineup. Of course, Los Angeles’ fate will be known in the coming weeks and George will get tested again in the highest form of competition in the NBA.
