The Dallas Mavericks needed to come up with something special on Sunday night to put an end to the Houston Rockets’ mind-numbing 11-game win streak. Luka Doncic understood the assignment that was at hand, and he delivered yet another masterful performance just when the Mavs needed it most.
Thanks to Doncic’s heroics, Dallas secured a 125-107 victory at the Toyota Center to pour some ice-cold water on Houston’s scorching-hot run.
Dallas Mavericks Star Luka Doncic Shines Bright Vs. Rockets
Doncic was on fire from the get-go on Sunday, logging 22 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in the first quarter alone. The Rockets managed just 24 points in the opening period, and Luka almost singlehandedly outscored them with his first-quarter explosion.
The five-time All-Star kept his foot on the gas the rest of the way. He finished with a game-high 47 points on 18-of-30 shooting, to go along with 12 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals in 35 minutes of action. Luka was red-hot from beyond the arc in this one, going 9-of-16 on his attempts from deep.
Luka Doncic Solidifies MVP Push
Unsurprisingly, Doncic’s majestic performance had the mean streets of Twitter buzzing over the Dallas superstar’s MVP credentials. Clearly, more than a few fans believe that this is finally going to be Luka’s year:

For what it’s worth, Doncic just surpassed Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the No. 2 spot in the MVP race, per NBA.com. The one man standing in Luka’s way is good friend and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic.
