Just recently, LeBron James blasted ESPN for moving Bronny James to their 2025 Mock Draft. Now, an NBA draft analyst projected that the Los Angeles Lakers will engage in conversations about the young star to see how he fits with the team.
In 2022, LeBron James came out with a declaration that his final year in the NBA will be spent playing for a team that had Bronny in it. Years after, the Lakers star became the first player in NBA history to reach 40,000 points during a game against the Denver Nuggets.
After ESPN released their mock draft projections, James tweeted to let Bronny be a kid and enjoy college basketball. The four-time NBA champion added that his son is putting in the work and mock drafts don’t matter.
This claim comes after James said that Bronny is better than some NBA players. So far, the younger James is averaging 5.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 21 games for the USC Trojans.
Los Angeles Lakers Projected To Consider Drafting Bronny James For Next Season
According to NBA draft analyst Krysten Peek projected that the Lakers selecting Bronny using the 56th pick will garner conversations on Los Angeles’ part. She also added that Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul said Bronny’s situation will be based on team fit.
“I don’t value a young player getting into the lottery as much as I do getting him on the right team, in the right developmental situation,” Paul said. Playing alongside his dad and staying close to home seems like an ideal situation,” Paul said.
Peek added that Bronny’s lackluster year at USC won’t necessarily equate to a disappointing NBA career.
“How do these statements fit in with Bronny, his lackluster year at USC and his projection as an NBA player? The big thing: Bronny will continue to develop his game, whether that’s another year or two at USC or with an NBA franchise, most likely in the G League. He’s a workhorse. He has all the tools and resources at his disposal to get the best training, best recovery and learn the game from one of the greatest to ever play,” she added.
As it stands, Bronny James isn’t expected to be selected in this year’s draft based on skill alone. Many project him to be selected out of the fact that the older James will play for any franchise who will pick his son.
It remains to be seen whether Bronny will declare for the draft in the coming months. What’s certain, though, is that teams will be more interested in having LeBron come over if they go for his son in the draft.
