On the Run It Back Show on FanDuel TV, Shams Charania gave an update on the status of Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent.
“Gabe Vincent finally to the point where he’s progressing to conditioning and ramping up on the floor,” Charania said. “His window — I’m told — to potentially return begins next week. And this is a guy that’s only played five games in the month of December, last played Dec. 20. And they’re hopeful that there’s no setback. That’s always been the thing here with Gabe Vincent’s rehab — it was before his knee surgery, and then after he underwent that arthroscopic knee surgery.”
Lakers Eager to See Vincent on the Court
Coming off of a sensational playoff run in Miami, Vincent was a highly coveted free agent guard in the off-season, and the Lakers had high expectations for the 5th year guard. In that playoff run Vincent posted 12.7 points and 3.5 assists per game, while displaying the ability to knock down clutch shots.
Gabe Vincent has also showed to be a reliable shot maker from the 3 point line. To say the Lakers, who rank last in the NBA in 3pt percentage, need a jolt from beyond the arc would be an understatement. With the current state of the NBA every team is looking for consistent scoring down the stretch, and that is what the Lakers are hoping Vincent brings when he is added back into the lineup.
Vincent did appear in the teams first five games this season, but really struggled to find his footing, posting a career low in points.
Lakers Play-In Push
The Los Angeles Lakers are in desperate need for a spark to ignite their playoff push. They currently sit in ninth, two games out of the six seed, in a very tight Western Conference. The Lakers have shown the ability to piece it together for a run, going to the Western Conference Finals a season ago, and winning the first ever NBA In-Season Tournament earlier this season. With some uncertainty about LeBron James’ future, the Lakers window is closing, and it may be now or never to bring in a second title during the LeBron Era.
