The Los Angeles Lakers had a good start in Sunday’s series opener against the defending NBA champions Denver Nuggets, even taking a three-point lead to halftime. But things changed in the second half wherein the Nuggets flexed their muscles and showed why they were favored to win against the Lakers going into the series.

The Lakers did not help themselves in their goal of setting the tone right away in the series and stealing a win in Game 1 in Mile High City with their shortcomings in the contest, as they ended up taking a 114-103 loss.

Darvin Ham Shares Honest Take on Los Angeles Lakers’ Game 1 Loss to the Nuggets

Darvin Ham, who’s caught the ire of legions of Lakers fans for his decisions in the Nuggets game, painted the current landscape of Los Angeles as his team looks to find a solution quick to its issue versus a powerful opponent.

“S**t, it’s tough. A championship team isn’t going to beat itself,” Ham said far the game, per Jovan Buha of The Athletic.

It’s been a year since the Lakers and the Nuggets met in the 2023 Western Conference Finals but it remains obvious that they have no answer for Nikola Jokic, who had 32 points and 12 rebounds plus even assists in Game 1. But Ham also hinted that the Lakers still have some tricks up their sleeve to slow down The Joker (via Buha).

Darvin Ham says the Lakers have a couple more adjustments they’re going to throw at Nikola Jokic. He added the Lakers didn’t want to use all of their adjustments in Game 1.

Whatever those adjustments are, Ham and the Lakers have to make it work, with the Nuggets looking unstoppable after just one game in the series.
