NBA legend Magic Johnson is excited for March Madness. In fact, he’s well updated with the current storylines as he shared his thoughts on the upcoming Final Four games for the men’s and women’s divisions.
Of course, Johnson is most intrigued about the scheduled battle between Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers as both the Iowa Hawkeyes and UConn Huskies eye the national title.
Magic Johnson Speaks Out on Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers
The NCAA Tournament Final Four isn’t until Friday and Saturday, but Johnson couldn’t contain his excitement about the games. On X (formerly Twitter), Johnson shared his thoughts on the matches.
Discussing the women’s games, Johnson called Clark and Bueckers the two best players in women’s college basketball today. She also did not forget to mention the undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks guided by Dawn Staley, as well as the surprise contenders in the NC State Wolfpack.
“I have my popcorn ready for the women’s Final Four this Friday! The two best women’s basketball players in college, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark and UConn’s Paige Bueckers, are set to go head-to-head this Friday and continue the star matchups we’ve seen throughout the tournament!” Johnson wrote.
“And I can’t forget about South Carolina, who as a team is downright dominant. I’m excited to watch them fight to remain undefeated and move past the Final Four round that knocked them out last year against the underdogs of NC State! The Wolfpack are led by their star guards Aziaha James and South Carolina transfer Saniya Rivers.”
Considering the star power in the Final Four, it’s hard to blame Johnson for being this thrilled for March Madness. Not to mention that with the interest in women’s hoops at an all-time high–with ticket sales and TV viewership recording insane numbers–it’s no wonder why there’s a lot of buzz about it.
Magic Johnson Hypes Up March Madness Men’s Game
Sure enough, the women’s game isn’t the only thing Magic Johnson is looking forward to. The men’s tournament is creating a lot of buzz as well even though the names that star in it couldn’t compare to the women’s side.
For one, the UConn Huskies’ dominance under Dan Hurley is hard to ignore. Then there’s the interesting showdown between Purdue Boilermakers giant Zach Edey and NC State Wolfpack big man DJ Burns Jr. There’s a lot of unpredictability in the men’s side, which makes it really noteworthy.
“Let’s see if Tristen Newton can lead the UConn Huskies a step closer to back-to-back national championships over Mark Sears and Alabama. It hasn’t been done since Florida in 2006 and 2007,” Johnson said.
“I’m also looking forward to watching Zach Edey and Purdue battle against DJ Burns and NC State for a spot in the national championship game!”
Sure enough, with all the amazing storylines in the Final Four this weekend, it should be a massive treat for all basketball fanatics.
