Miami Heat news: “This one given bro, just saying.” These were the exact words Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce uttered — or typed in the comments section rather — in reference to Udonis Haslem’s Heat jersey retirement. It was a savage jab that belittled all of Haslem’s contributions to the franchise in his two-decade tenure.
Naturally, the ever-outspoken Haslem fired back, and this has now turned into a full-blown beef between these two retired stars. For his part, Haslem clearly isn’t letting this issue die down.
Miami Heat Legend Udonis Haslem Slams Paul Pierce
Haslem immediately reacted to Pierce’s shot by saying that he was willing to let this comment go — for Pierce’s sake, of course:
“My first reaction was to choose violence but I’m gon spare cause I know you ain’t like that. You’re entitled to your opinion my boy!!!!” Haslem wrote on Instagram.
In a recent interview, Pierce added more fuel to the flame by denying Haslem’s claim about once challenging himself and ex-Celtics teammate Kevin Garnett to a fight in a grocery store. According to Pierce, he doesn’t recall such a threat:
“First of all, I’m trying to remember when he told me that,” Pierce said (h/t Adam Taylor of Celtics Wire). “I never remember hearing that. Second of all, when we played Miami and Udonis Haslem was out there, I don’t remember no hard screens, no hard fouls…It is what it is. I’d rather do it in a telephone booth, but if you need more room in the grocery store, that’s cool, too.”
Savage.
Haslem Threatens The Truth
Haslem isn’t ready to let this all go, despite claiming that he would rather NOT choose violence. The three-time NBA champion threatened, however, that “somebody gonna get hurt.”
“My daddy didn’t raise no punk and I don’t play no games,” Haslem said on a recent podcast appearance (h/t Shandel Robinson of Inside the Heat). “I’m with all that. What I’m going to do is I’m going to disconnect from that situation. I don’t play like that.
“… I’m gonna spare you because I know you ain’t like that.”
As always, Haslem did not pull any punches. This might not be the case, however, if these two cross paths in the near future.
“I’m gonna leave that alone before I hurt you,” Haslem said. “And I mean that.”
