The Minnesota Timberwolves are now the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference after their win against a LeBron James-less Los Angeles Lakers side on Sunday night. With four games remaining in the regular season, however, the Wolves have yet to secure the top spot in the West, with the defending champs Denver Nuggets and the Oklahoma City Thunder right on their heels.
The good news for Minnesota is that they’re about to get a massive Karl-Anthony Towns boost in this final stretch. The four-time All-Star is finally nearing his return to action as he looks to help his squad clinch the No. 1 seed heading into the playoffs.
Minnesota Timberwolves News: Karl-Anthony Towns Set to Return Before Postseason Begins
Towns has been out of action for more than a month now after tearing the meniscus in his knee. He has been working hard to get back into game shape, though, and it now appears that all his hard work is about to pay off.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Towns could finally see game action again in the coming week:
“Great news for Karl-Anthony Towns, he participated in his first team scrimmage on Sunday,” Shams said. “…There is optimism that Karl-Anthony Towns will play before the playoffs start.”

The Wolves are heading into a back-to-back set on Tuesday and Wednesday against the Washington Wizards and the Nuggets, respectively. Optimistically, Towns could return to action against Nikola Jokic and Co. with the top seed in the West on the line.
After that set, Minnesota play their two final games at home. These are against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, followed by a showdown against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday to close out the regular season.
At this point, the Wolves are hopeful that KAT will be able to play in at least a couple of regular season games in order to get himself ready for what they’re hoping will be an extended playoff run.
