Now in his sixth year in the league, Luka Doncic is making his case as the best player to step on the court this season. And after another insane scoring feat, the Dallas Mavericks star is closer to making that happen for the franchise he’s playing for.
Just recently, the Mavericks took care of business by getting the 130-104 win over the Charlotte Hornets. In that game, Doncic went off by dropping 39 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. Dallas’ All-Star guard also shot 52 percent from the field and 47 percent from deep in 34 minutes on the court. Kyrie Irving made 18 points and nine assists, while Daniel Gafford added 26 points and seven boards.
The Hornets, on the other hand, were led by Miles Bridges and Brandon Miller with 22 and 21 points, respectively. Tre Mann played point guard and tallied 11 points and six assists while Grant Williams contributed 12 points.
The win helped Dallas secure the fifth seed in the Western Conference after the team clinched a playoff spot. Meanwhile, the Hornets are out of the playoff picture after enduring a whole season without All-Star point guard LaMelo Ball.
Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic Closes In On Franchise GOAT Status With Jaw-Dropping Scoring Feat
Doncic’s performance against the Hornets allowed the Mavs star to break new ground and inch closer to become the franchise’s GOAT. According to several tweets posted on X:
“Luka tonight:
39 PTS
12 REB
10 AST
8 3P
Officially has the most points in a season by a Mav,” StatMuse tweeted.
“Luka Doncic has passed Mark Aguirre’s 40-year-old franchise single-season scoring record of 2,330 points, set during the 1983-84 season. Doncic now has 2,332 points,” Brad Townsend posted.
“Luka Dončić notched 39 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists tonight against the Hornets, marking the 77th career triple-double for No. 77. Dončić tied James Harden for the eighth-most triple-doubles in NBA history (77),” Mavs PR shared.
Doncic’s performance against Charlotte not only raises his case to become the best player in Mavericks’ history. It also builds up his argument to win MVP over Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander this season.
With a playoff spot secured and all the momentum going in their favor, Doncic and the Mavs are poised to make some noise in the postseason. Expect the Slovenian All-Star to lead the way and build his reputation as Dallas’ GOAT in the months to come.
