Zion Williamson struggled on Wednesday night as the New Orleans Pelicans suffered their fourth loss in the last five games. Williamson, who had been averaging 29.6 points in his previous five contests, managed just 15 points on Wednesday as the Pels fell to the Orlando Magic, 117-108.
Zion wasn’t able to finish the game either after he was forced to exit with a little more than seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter due to a finger injury. The silver lining here is that the injury does not appear to be a significant cause for concern.
New Orleans Pelicans News: Zion Williamson Day-to-Day With Finger Injury

Pelicans head coach Willie Green was pretty ominous with his update on his superstar forward following Wednesday’s defeat. At that point, the team did not have much information on Zion’s injury other than the fact that he would need to undergo tests to determine the extent of the problem.
The results of the said tests have now come back, and Pelicans fans will be glad to know that the former No. 1 pick has dodged a bullet here. This report comes via Andrew Lopez of ESPN:
“Zion Williamson will be day to day, Willie Green says. Contusion on that left middle finger. X-rays and scans came back clean,” Lopez reported.

It would have been a terrible time for the struggling Pelicans to lose one of their most important players, especially considering how tight it is in the West at the moment. This is exactly why supporters can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Zion’s finger injury is not serious. It is worth noting, however, that this is in his shooting hand, so this should be a situation worth monitoring moving forward.
New Orleans’ next game is on Friday against the San Antonio Spurs, and Williamson has currently been listed as questionable to play for that matchup.
