New York Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson is still sidelined, but he took a big step closer to a return to action on Wednesday when he showed up to practice, according to head coach Tom Thibodeau, who also pumped the breaks a little after delivering the encouraging update.
Via Stefan Bondy of the New York Post:
“It wasn’t an extended [practice], obviously. But he did shooting. He did offense, defense, script,” Thibodeau said.
Asked if there’s a timeline for his return to games, Thibodeau said, “He’s got to go through contact for a while. So then he’s got to get cleared by the doctor.”

New York Knicks’ Mitchell Robinson Still Working His Way Back From Injury
The Knicks can’t wait for Robinson to join them on the court, though, they are doing a fantastic job of keeping their heads way above water despite missing the big man and other key players due to injuries. They are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference standings with a 41-27 record and have won all of their last four games heading into Thursday’s meeting with the Denver Nuggets in Mile High City.
Apart from Robinson, the Knicks are also missing the pair of OG ANunoby (elbow) and Julius Randle (shoulder).
Robinson, who last took to the floor back in December against the Boston Celtics, has only played in 21 games so far in the 2023-24 NBA regular season. He has season averages of 6.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks plus a 59.2 percent shooting from the field.
With Robinsin still out, the Knicks will continue to roll with Isaiah Hartenstein as the starting center with Jericho Sims providing insurance in the position.
